478 FNUS53 KMQT 031004 FWFMQT FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN National Weather Service Marquette MI 604 AM EDT Fri May 3 2024 ...Breezy and Very Dry Today... .DISCUSSION: Clouds and patchy fog diminish this morning resulting in abundant sunshine today that allows for deep mixing into a very dry layer aloft. In addition to being dry, this layer also has strong winds indicating quite a bit of gustiness this afternoon. The strongest winds spread across the northwest half of the UP where gusts to around 30 mph are forecast, but there is potential for higher gusts especially for our northwestern tier of counties. The areas that experience the driest/breeziest conditions today might also have poor nocturnal recovery tonight before rain chances arrive Saturday morning. Saturday's cool front and associated rain chances should be delayed until the afternoon across the central UP and the evening across the eastern UP. Therefore, Saturday's forecast appears to be trending toward dry and breezy weather across the eastern UP. A longer stretch of dry weather is expected next Sunday - Tuesday with potential for strong southeast winds accompanying dry conditions on Tuesday.
