Across West Virginia...temperatures are near 50 degrees north, near 54 degrees central, and near 46 degrees south. Current sky conditions are mostly sunny north, mostly sunny central, and sunny south. In the north, relative humidity is near 33%, and the dew point is near 22 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 28%, and the dew point is near 22 degrees. In the south, relative humidity is near 37%, and the dew point is near 21 degrees. Winds are from the northwest at 10 mph with gusts at 20 mph north, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the northwest at 15 mph with gusts at 23 mph central, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the north at 15 mph with gusts at 24 mph south, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 56 degrees at Huntington. The lowest temperature is 46 degrees at Bluefield.

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
