Across West Virginia...temperatures are near 39 degrees north, near 36 degrees central, and near 37 degrees south. Current sky conditions are cloudy north, mostly cloudy central, and cloudy south. In the north, relative humidity is near 64%, and the dew point is near 28 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 79%, and the dew point is near 30 degrees. In the south, relative humidity is near 85%, and the dew point is near 33 degrees. Winds are from the north at 6 mph north, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are calm central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are variable at 6 mph south, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 46 degrees at Petersburg and Martinsburg. The lowest temperature is 30 degrees at Parkersburg.

HISTORIC WEATHER EVENTS

Thane Creek AK reported a snow cover of 190 inches. (The Weather Channel)

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
