Across Virginia...temperatures are near 53 degrees north, near 51 degrees central, and near 62 degrees south. Current sky conditions are cloudy north, cloudy central, and mostly sunny south. In the north, relative humidity is near 41%, and the dew point is near 30 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 65%, and the dew point is near 40 degrees. In the south, relative humidity is near 33%, and the dew point is near 33 degrees. Winds are from the north at 13 mph with gusts at 24 mph north, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the north at 10 mph central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the northwest at 6 mph south, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 63 degrees at Lynchburg. The lowest temperature is CLOUDY degrees at Roanoke.

Thane Creek AK reported a snow cover of 190 inches. (The Weather Channel)

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
