Low pressure will exit offshore and to the northeast by this 
evening. High pressure continues to build in from the Gulf 
Coast states Friday with gusty northwest winds. A backdoor 
front edges south toward the area Easter Sunday.

Across Virginia...temperatures are near 51 degrees north, near 50 degrees central, and near 59 degrees south. Current sky conditions are mostly cloudy north, cloudy central, and partly cloudy south. In the north, relative humidity is near 44%, and the dew point is near 30 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 66%, and the dew point is near 39 degrees. In the south, relative humidity is near 26%, and the dew point is near 24 degrees. Winds are from the northeast at 7 mph north, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the north at 5 mph central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the northwest at 16 mph with gusts at 23 mph south, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 59 degrees at Lynchburg and Danville. The lowest temperature is CLOUDY degrees at Roanoke.

There is an elevated fire danger through early this evening for 
locations west of the Blue Ridge Mountains. 

 DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN  Friday through Wednesday

Strong wind gusts may result in isolated instances of wind damage,
especially at higher elevations Friday.

Elevated fire danger is possible for portions of the area west of
the Blue Ridge on Friday given the combination of low relative 
humidity and gusty winds.

HISTORIC WEATHER EVENTS

Thane Creek AK reported a snow cover of 190 inches. (The Weather Channel)

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
