Expect a noticeable warmup today, with most areas seeing highs 
climb above freezing, and even some lower 50s over southeast
Montana and western South Dakota.

A low pressure system will bring chances for mixed precipitation
across the region tonight into Friday, with mostly light freezing
rain in southern North Dakota and mostly snow to the north. 
Expect 30s and 40s for highs through the weekend, with additional 
chances for snow across southern parts of the region.

Across South Dakota...temperatures are near 41 east. Current sky condition is mostly sunny east.In the east, relative humidity is near 51%, and the dew point is near 24 degrees. Winds are unavailable west. Winds are unavailable central. Winds are from the east at 10 mph east, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 41 degrees at YANKTON. The lowest temperature is 31 degrees at BROOKINGS.

Hazardous Weather Outlook For JONES County,SD

517 AM CDT Thu Mar 28 2024 /417 AM MDT Thu Mar 28 2024/

 DAY ONE  Today and tonight.

A quick moving disturbance will move through the region late tonight
bringing with it a chance for light rain and light freezing rain to
parts of the area. Up to a few hundredth of an inch of ice
accumulation will be possible across northern sections of South
Dakota from north central parts of the state east into northeast
South Dakota and west central Minnesota.

 DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN  Friday through Wednesday.

A disturbance will continue moving through the region on Friday
leading to a chance for light rain, light freezing rain or a light 
wintry mix to parts of the area. Up to a few hundredth of an inch of 
ice accumulation will be possible.

A more organized system will move through the region during the
course of the weekend into early next week. This disturbance will
increase chances for rain and snow Saturday through Monday.

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)

Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
