Across Nebraska...temperatures are near 20 degrees west, near 28 degrees central, and near 36 degrees east. Current sky conditions are partly cloudy west, clear central, and clear east. In the west, relative humidity is near 81%, and the dew point is near 15 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 92%, and the dew point is near 26 degrees. In the east, relative humidity is near 68%, and the dew point is near 26 degrees. There is patchy fog central. Winds are from the west at 7 mph west, where conditions are favorable for spraying. The wind chill is near 11 degrees west. Winds are calm central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the southwest at 10 mph east, where conditions are favorable for spraying. The wind chill is near 28 degrees east. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 36 degrees at HASTINGS. The lowest temperature is 19 degrees at WAYNE.

Hazardous Weather Outlook For EASTERN CHERRY County, Nebraska

348 AM CDT Thu Mar 28 2024 /248 AM MDT Thu Mar 28 2024/

 DAY ONE  Today and tonight.

Elevated to near critical fire weather conditions are possible this
afternoon across non-snow covered areas. Low relative humidity will
combine with wind gusts up to 20 MPH. The area of greatest concern is
generally along and west of highway 61 from Merriman to Imperial. 

 DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN  Friday through Wednesday.

Some snow is possible Sunday into Monday across northern and western 
Nebraska. At this time, it does appear that some accumulation is 
possible. Stay tuned for further updates.

HISTORIC WEATHER EVENTS

Thane Creek AK reported a snow cover of 190 inches. (The Weather Channel)

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
