Across North Carolina...temperatures are near 50 degrees west, near 53 degrees central, and near 50 degrees east. Current sky conditions are clear west, clear central, and cloudy east. In the west, relative humidity is near 33%, and the dew point is near 22 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 31%, and the dew point is near 23 degrees. In the east, relative humidity is near 100%, and the dew point is near 50 degrees. Winds are from the northwest at 13 mph with gusts at 21 mph west, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the north at 6 mph central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the north at 8 mph with gusts at 25 mph east, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 57 degrees at Charlotte. The lowest temperature is 42 degrees at Jefferson.

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
