.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 349 AM CDT Thu Mar 28 2024

Today and tonight:

Skies clear under the influence of high pressure through the near
term period. Temperatures will remain seasonably cool with highs in
the upper 60s and lows in the low 40s. Things trend warmer heading
into the weekend. /SAS/

Friday through Wednesday:

Big picture view of the pattern Friday into next week is a building
upper-level ridge over much of the CONUS. Dry conditions Friday
thanks to lingering surface high pressure along the Gulf Coast will
yield to increasing humidity as southerly flow becomes established.
Saturday, Easter Sunday, and Monday highs all look to be near or
above 80 degrees as the ridge amplifies. Then an elongated and
positively-tilted shortwave trough dragging into the Gulf Coast
region will excite chances for showers and thunderstorms in the
region by Tuesday into Wednesday. More opportunity for heating and
instability in the lead up to this wave means a better confidence in
thunderstorms, but alignment of the shortwave and surface front may
result in more boundary-parallel shear and flooding concerns as
opposed to severe thunderstorm activity. Will have to monitor trends
in the guidance over the next few days. /NF/
