Across Missouri...temperatures are near 41 degrees north, near 38 degrees central, and near 50 degrees south. Current sky conditions are sunny north, sunny central, and sunny south. In the north, relative humidity is near 53%, and the dew point is near 25 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 73%, and the dew point is near 30 degrees. In the south, relative humidity is near 37%, and the dew point is near 25 degrees. Winds are from the southwest at 10 mph north, where conditions are favorable for spraying. The wind chill is near 35 degrees north. Winds are from the east at 5 mph central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. The wind chill is near 34 degrees central. Winds are calm south, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 50 degrees at West Plains. The lowest temperature is 38 degrees at Spirit of St. Louis, Osage Beach, and Jefferson City.

Fire danger will be heightened this afternoon, mainly for the 
southeast Missouri Ozarks.

 DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN  Friday through Wednesday

Fire danger will be heightened Friday afternoon, mainly for 
western Kentucky from the Land Between the Lakes eastward.

A chance of storms returns to the forecast late this weekend into
early next week. The best chance for stronger storms is with a
cold front's approach Monday into Monday night.

HISTORIC WEATHER EVENTS

Thane Creek AK reported a snow cover of 190 inches. (The Weather Channel)

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
