Across Kansas...temperatures are near 59 degrees west, near 76 degrees central, and near 79 degrees east. Current sky conditions are partly sunny west, fair central, and fair east. In the west, relative humidity is near 67%, and the dew point is near 48 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 53%, and the dew point is near 58 degrees. In the east, relative humidity is near 45%, and the dew point is near 56 degrees. Winds are from the northwest at 28 mph with gusts at 41 mph west, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the south at 26 mph with gusts at 39 mph central, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the south at 28 mph with gusts at 41 mph east, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 82 degrees at Salina. The lowest temperature is 59 degrees at Goodland and Garden City.

Hazardous Weather Outlook For POTTAWATOMIE County,KS

432 AM CDT Fri Apr 26 2024 DAY ONE Today and tonight. Isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms could develop this afternoon over parts of eastern and northeastern Kansas. Any storms that develop will be capable of very large hail, damaging winds and a tornado or two. DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN Saturday through Thursday. Numerous strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop and move into the area during the late afternoon hours on Saturday. Storms will again be capable of very large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes. On Sunday, there could be more thunderstorms over eastern parts of the area with a risk for large hail and strong winds. Repeated rounds of heavy rain could also cause localized flooding hazards through the weekend. SPOTTER MESSAGE Weather spotters are encouraged to relay reports of hail, damaging wind, tornadoes and flooding.

APRIL 26TH HISTORIC WEATHER EVENTS ...1834... Killer frosts were reported in the Deep South. The frost was quite severe around Huntsville AL, and highlighted a backward spring in the South that year. (David Ludlum) ...1978... An unusually strong occluded front swept out of the Gulf of Alaska and produced the first April thunderstorm of record at Fairbanks. Pea size hail fell northeast of Fairbanks from thunderstorms whose tops were less than 8000 feet. (The Weather Channel) ...1984... Severe thunderstorms associated with an intense cyclone spawned a total of forty-seven tornadoes in two days from Louisiana to Upper Michigan. The tornadoes killed 16 persons and injured 259 others.
