Across Kansas...temperatures are near 30 degrees west, near 33 degrees central, and near 39 degrees east. Current sky conditions are partly cloudy west, clear central, and clear east. In the west, relative humidity is near 81%, and the dew point is near 25 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 92%, and the dew point is near 31 degrees. In the east, relative humidity is near 76%, and the dew point is near 32 degrees. Winds are from the southwest at 5 mph west, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the southwest at 7 mph central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the southwest at 15 mph east, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. The wind chill is near 31 degrees east. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 39 degrees at Elkhart and Concordia. The lowest temperature is 26 degrees at Lawrence.

The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado
killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum)
...1997...
Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of 
Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and 
Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the 
twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe 
County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man 
was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of 
the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many 
people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
