Today: 

Clouds had spread over the state early this morning and winds from 
the southeast were averaging 10 to 20 mph with gusts to near 30 mph in
some places. Over western Iowa, showers and storms were just crossing
the Missouri River into western Iowa after midnight this morning. 
Temperatures in most locations were in the 50s.

The showers and embedded thunderstorms will move into central Iowa by
sunrise today and spread across eastern Iowa this morning. As this 
wave of precipitation moves out later this morning and afternoon, 
clouds will remain over northern into central Iowa with some breaks of
sunshine over southern Iowa, particularly southwest. Strong to severe
storms are expected to develop near the Missouri River late this 
afternoon and push into western and central Iowa this evening and 
eastern Iowa late evening and after midnight. Large hail, a few 
tornadoes, and strong wind gusts will be possible with this activity. 

In addition to the stormy weather, it will be breezy with wind speeds
averaging 15 to 25 mph and gusts of 25 to 35 mph much of the time 
today and through this weekend as well.

Tonight and beyond: 

There should be a break in widespread activity after the storms exit
tonight until later Saturday afternoon when strong to severe storms 
are once again expected. In addition, storms moving over the same area
with little break between rounds may result in ponding in low lying 
and poor drainage areas and perhaps localized flooding as storms
continue into Saturday night. There may be some lingering showers or 
storms on Sunday, but another round of strong to severe storms will 
be possible later in the day into the evening. Anyone with outdoor 
plans should have ways to receive weather warnings and know where 
nearby shelter is located in case threatening weather nears their 
location.

Across Iowa...temperatures are near 54 degrees west, near 53 degrees central, and near 47 degrees east. Current sky conditions are cloudy west, cloudy central, and light rain east. In the west, relative humidity is near 97%, and the dew point is near 53 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 89%, and the dew point is near 50 degrees. In the east, relative humidity is near 90%, and the dew point is near 44 degrees. Winds are from the southeast at 23 mph with gusts at 33 mph west, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the east at 22 mph with gusts at 29 mph central, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the east at 14 mph east, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds and light rain. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 59 degrees at Clarinda. The lowest temperature is 47 degrees at Davenport and Clinton.

Hazardous Weather Outlook For MILLS County,IA

1037 AM CDT Fri Apr 26 2024 DAY ONE Today and Tonight Severe weather is likely across much of eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa this afternoon and evening. All hazards are possible, including large hail up to three inches in diameter, a few strong tornadoes, and thunderstorm winds up to 70 mph. Much of eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa are in an enhanced risk of severe weather. The best timeframe for severe storms should be from 2 pm through 8 pm. Be prepared to implement severe weather safety plans this afternoon and evening. DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN Saturday through Thursday Another round of severe weather is likely late Saturday afternoon into Saturday night, especially along and south of I-80. Again, all severe hazards are possible, including hail up to three inches in diameter, a few strong tornadoes, and thunderstorm winds up to 70 mph. Severe weather is again possible Sunday afternoon into evening in parts of southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa. Hail up to quarter size and thunderstorm winds up to 60 mph are the main hazards, but an isolated weak tornado couldn't be ruled out as well. SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT Spotter activation will likely be required on both Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings.
