Today: 

After another active evening of thunderstorms rolling across the 
state, conditions have quieted down as dried out as an area of high 
pressure moves in from the west. Overnight temperatures are 
generally in the mid 40s to mid 50s under mostly clear skies and 
west to northwest winds around 5 to 15 mph.

More showers and storms are expected later today. Expect isolated to 
scattered activity to increase by this afternoon and evening, then 
period of showers and storms become widespread tonight. The threat 
of severe weather is low at this time. Highs today will generally be 
in the 60s and 70s.

Tonight and beyond: 

Periods of showers and storms continue into Thursday. Widespread 1 
to 2 inches of rainfall with locally higher amounts are possible 
before the precipitation ends by Thursday night. Our active pattern 
does not rest long as chances for showers and storms return for 
Saturday and again early next week. Highs will be right around normal 
for early May in the upper 60s and 70s.

Current Agricultural Weather Conditions in Iowa
Based on observations at 400pm CDT, Wednesday May 01, 2024

Across Iowa...temperatures are near 59 degrees west, near 66 degrees central, and near 72 degrees east. Current sky conditions are light rain west, cloudy central, and mostly sunny east. In the west, relative humidity is near 67%, and the dew point is near 48 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 37%, and the dew point is near 39 degrees. In the east, relative humidity is near 26%, and the dew point is near 36 degrees. The livestock heat stress category is no stress west, no stress central, and no stress east. Winds are from the southeast at 8 mph west, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to light rain. Winds are from the southeast at 3 mph central, where conditions are favorable for spraying. Winds are from the northwest at 10 mph with gusts at 21 mph east, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Based on current available observations, the highest temperature is 74 degrees at Quad Cities. The lowest temperature is 59 degrees at Storm Lake and Sioux City.

 DAY ONE  TODAY AND TONIGHT

Chances for showers and thunderstorms increase tonight. 
Lightning is the primary hazard with any storms.  

 DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN  THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY

Showers and thunderstorms are likely Thursday into Thursday 
night. There is a Marginal risk, or level 1 out of 5 risk for
severe weather. There is also a threat for heavy rainfall, which 
could pose a risk for localized flooding. 

There is additional chances for showers and storms over the
weekend and early next week, however it is too early to determine
the severe weather threat. 

 SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT  

Spotter activation will not be needed today or tonight, but is
possible Thursday afternoon and evening.
