Rain showers with a few thunderstorms at times across portions of
southern Iowa have been ongoing through much of the early morning
hours. Coverage and rain amounts remain highest over northern and
southern Iowa with lighter amounts through portions of central Iowa.
Temperatures early this morning range from the upper 30s north to the
low 50s south. Winds vary in direction from out of the west far north,
to out of the east in the south, to out of the north in the west, or
almost a little bit of everything! Wind speeds range from below 10 mph
to up to 25 mph with gusts up to around 30 mph in portions of western
to southwest Iowa.

Rain, or thunderstorms in the south to southeast, will gradually end
northwest to southeast through the afternoon hours. A stronger storm
may be possible for areas along and south of US Highway 34 in
southeast Iowa this afternoon, but the overall chances for any severe
storms are low. High temperatures today will be in the 50s with winds
settling to out of the northeast or out of the northwest ranging from
about 10 to 25 mph with gusts of up to 30 to 35 mph in the south and
west to northwest.

Tonight and beyond:

Dry conditions are then expected tonight through the weekend. Windy
conditions return for Friday with breezy winds remaining into
Saturday before winds relax into Sunday. Temperatures will also remain
cooler Friday through the weekend with highs in/near the 50s and
morning lows in the upper 20s or 30s which may lead to some
frost/freeze concerns for any susceptible plants Friday through Sunday
mornings.
