Current sky conditions are mostly sunny north, mostly sunny central, and sunny south. In the north, relative humidity is near 24%, and the dew point is near 29 degrees. In the central part of the state, relative humidity is near 37%, and the dew point is near 44 degrees. In the south, relative humidity is near 49%, and the dew point is near 53 degrees. Winds are from the northwest at 14 mph with gusts at 24 mph north, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. Winds are from the north at 12 mph with gusts at 21 mph central, where conditions are not favorable for spraying due to strong winds. A Fire Danger Statement is in effect this afternoon and early evening across much of north and central Georgia due to low relative humidity, breezy conditions, and dry fuels. Areas of frost are possible across extreme northeast Georgia, and a Frost Advisory is in effect for that area late tonight and early Friday morning. Thane Creek AK reported a snow cover of 190 inches. (The Weather Channel) ...1920... The worst tornado disaster of record occurred in Chicago IL as a tornado killed 28 persons and caused three million dollars damage. (David Ludlum) ...1997... Ten tornadoes tore across the area, affecting the Kentucky counties of Adair, Metcalfe, Casey, Green, Larue, Marion, Hardin, Hart, Nelson, and Russell; and the Indiana counties of Scott and Jefferson. Two of the twisters produced F3 damage. A 28-year-old woman was killed in Metcalfe County as she was thrown from her destroyed mobile home. A 40-year-old man was killed when his house in Bonnieville (Hart County) was hit by one of the F3 tornadoes and blown off its foundation. This tornado injured many people when it caused several car accidents as it crossed Interstate 65.
